Tim Burchett Goes Nuclear on Gutless GOP Leadership: 'This Town Is Crooked as a Dog's Leg'

Rep. Tim Burchett of Tennessee just did something almost no Republican in Washington has the spine to do — he walked out of committee and told the American people exactly how badly their own party is screwing them. And folks, it ain't pretty.

But sure, we're the "majority." Somebody should let our amendments know that.

Burchett erupted on camera after leaving a committee session where GOP amendments to cut regulations from a bridges bill were killed — not by Democrats, but by his own party's backroom dealmaking. The Tennessee congressman didn't mince a single word.

"I just left the committee. We had some amendments that were cutting regulations," Burchett said in a video captured by Eric Daugherty. "Because of backroom deals, they were cut."

Let that sink in. We busted our tails to give Republicans the House majority, and leadership is using that majority to do exactly what Democrats want. That's not governing. That's surrender with a GOP logo slapped on it.

Burchett laid bare the absurdity of the situation with the kind of directness Washington desperately needs more of. "They won't allow any amendments on the bill because one Democrat didn't agree," he said. "So here we are in the majority, and we're not allowed to do that."

One Democrat. One. And somehow that single objection overrides the entire Republican conference. We didn't fight for this majority so leadership could hand the keys right back to the people we beat.

The Gateway Pundit reported on the fiery exchange, which has since gone viral — and for good reason. Burchett isn't playing the DC game where you complain in private and smile for the cameras. He's naming what we all see.

"This town is crooked as a dog's leg, and I'm disgusted," Burchett declared.

That right there should be printed on T-shirts and handed out at every Republican primary in America. Because that's not just Burchett talking — that's 75 million voters who sent these people to Washington to actually fight.

And here's the part that should terrify every Republican who thinks these backroom deals are clever politics. Burchett warned that the precedent being set now will come back to haunt the GOP. "When the Democrats are in the majority... we're going to regret it," he said.

Of course we will. Every time Republicans play nice and hand procedural power to the left, Democrats take notes. They never return the favor. They steamroll. We negotiate with ourselves and then act shocked when we lose.

"At some point, we're going to have to get some guts," Burchett added.

At some point? Brother, that point was about four years ago. But better late than never, and at least one congressman from Tennessee didn't get the memo to shut up and go along. The base is tired of sending fighters to DC and getting back bureaucrats. Tim Burchett remembered who sent him there. The rest of GOP leadership should take notes — or start updating their resumes.
