The Guy Who Called Russiagate a Fraud From Day One Just Got Handed the Keys to the Investigation — And DC Is Having a Panic Attack

Joe diGenova — the former U.S. Attorney who spent four straight years on television telling anyone who would listen that the Russia collusion story was a manufactured hoax — just got sworn in as Counsel to the Attorney General. His assignment? Leading the federal investigation into the people who manufactured it.

You cannot write comedy this good. The people who spent 2017 through 2021 screaming “Russia! Russia! Russia!” into every available microphone are about to get investigated by the one guy who never bought a single word of it. Karma doesn’t knock. It kicks the door in.

For those of you who don’t remember — and the media is desperately hoping you don’t — diGenova served as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia from 1983 to 1988. The man knows how federal prosecutions work. He knows where the bodies are buried. And now he’s got a grand jury empaneled in Fort Pierce, Florida, that’s been working since January.

Why Fort Pierce? Because that’s Judge Aileen Cannon’s courthouse. Remember her? She’s the federal judge who threw out Jack Smith’s entire indictment against Trump back in July 2024, ruling that Smith’s appointment as Special Counsel violated the Constitution. So the investigation into who weaponized the justice system is now running out of the courthouse where a judge already ruled that the justice system WAS weaponized.

(Chef’s kiss.)

President Trump personally called diGenova to congratulate him after he was sworn in. We’d love to have been a fly on the wall for that conversation. “Hey Joe, remember when they called us both Russian assets? Yeah, your turn now.”

Think about the absolute galaxy-brain arrogance of the people who pushed Russiagate. They fabricated a dossier. They lied to FISA courts. They spied on an incoming president. They ran a Special Counsel investigation that found exactly nothing. They impeached the man over a phone call. And through all of it, they were so confident they’d never be held accountable that they went on CNN and wrote book deals about how heroic they were.

Well, the book tour is over, folks. The sequel just started and you’re not the heroes this time.

The grand jury has been working quietly for months now. We don’t know who’s been called to testify and we don’t know what they’ve found. But we do know this — when the government empanels a grand jury, it’s not because they’re bored. Somebody is in trouble.

And the beautiful part? DiGenova isn’t some neutral bureaucrat they pulled off the bench to run a “bipartisan review.” This is a man who went on national television for years and called Russiagate exactly what it was — a political hit job dressed up as a national security investigation. He said it when saying it got you banned from polite company in Washington. He said it when the media called him a conspiracy theorist. He said it when his own colleagues in the legal world told him to shut up.

He was right. They were wrong. And now he’s got subpoena power.

We’ve been waiting for this moment since 2017. Every time some smug intelligence community “expert” went on MSNBC and talked about “the walls closing in” on Trump, we knew the real walls would eventually close in on them. It just took a little longer than we hoped.

The hunter has become the hunted. And honestly? It’s about time somebody in Washington learned that when you try to destroy a president with a lie, the lie eventually comes back for you.

Grab the popcorn. This is going to be spectacular.
