Evita Duffy-Alfonso — staff writer at The Federalist, co-founder of the Chicago Thinker, and daughter of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy — committed the unforgivable sin of having a baby last week. She posted a photo of her newborn daughter Rosita on X on May 29, captioned "Obsessed," and the Daily Beast immediately went to work proving that progressivism has finally eaten itself.
Imagine being so broken by Trump Derangement Syndrome that a woman holding her newborn triggers you into writing a hit piece. That's where we are now, folks.
Daily Beast writer Annabella Rosciglione penned the attack, going after Duffy-Alfonso not for anything she said or did, but for the crime of being a conservative woman who gave birth. The piece targeted her family connections — her father is Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, her mother is "Fox & Friends Weekend" host Rachel Campos-Duffy, and her husband Michael Alfonso is running in the Republican primary for Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District as a Trump-endorsed candidate. Apparently having the wrong last name while pregnant is now a newsworthy offense.
The backlash was immediate and savage.
Duffy-Alfonso herself fired back, calling the Daily Beast's obsession a "terminal case of Trump Derangement Syndrome." Her mother Rachel Campos-Duffy responded with "Haters gonna hate, Evita...beautiful mama!" Daily Wire host Isabel Brown cut straight to the absurdity: "So the media running hit pieces on newborn babies." Fox News contributor Joe Concha directed his fury at Daily Beast publisher and CEO Ben Sherwood, demanding, "How can you allow this filth to be published?"
Even Dana Loesch chimed in with a simple "Congratulations, mama! She's beautiful" — because normal people celebrate new life instead of writing opposition research on it.
Let's be honest about what happened here. The Daily Beast didn't stumble into a story. They saw a conservative woman post a baby photo and thought, "We can use this." They weaponized a birth announcement. A literal infant became collateral damage in their war against anyone adjacent to Donald Trump.
This is the same crowd that lectures us about "women's empowerment" and "reproductive rights." They march around in pink hats screaming about bodily autonomy, but the second a conservative woman actually uses her body to do the most natural thing in the world — bring a child into it — she gets a Daily Beast takedown for her trouble.
The article, reported by the Daily Wire's Jack Swanson on May 30, set off a firestorm across conservative media because it perfectly crystallized everything wrong with the modern left. They don't have principles. They have targets. And when they run out of politicians to smear and policies to lie about, they go after babies.
Newborn babies.
Congratulations to the Duffy-Alfonso family on baby Rosita. And congratulations to the Daily Beast for proving, once again, that nobody hates women and children quite like the people who claim to champion them.
