Karen Bass's Own Brother Sues Her Over Palisades Fire — And He Brought Spencer Pratt Along for the Ride

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass just got hit with what might be the most embarrassing lawsuit in the history of California politics — and trust me, that's a crowded field. Her own brother, 78-year-old Kenneth Bass, has joined a massive class-action lawsuit against the City of Los Angeles over the Palisades Fire, and reality TV star Spencer Pratt is proudly riding shotgun.

Imagine Thanksgiving dinner at the Bass household this year. Actually, you don't have to imagine — Pratt already did that for us.

Pratt, the 42-year-old former star of "The Hills" who lost his home in the January 7, 2025, Palisades Fire, took to X on Saturday to announce the legal tag team. "I am proud to be teaming up with Karen Bass' brother in suing his sister for her reckless negligence that led to the destruction of our homes," he wrote. Because when your own family is suing you for incompetence, you know you've really made it in Democrat politics.

Kenneth Bass and his wife Cindy filed as plaintiffs in a class-action suit on May 18, 2026, alleging their Malibu home was a "total burn down." They're claiming physical injuries, smoke inhalation, emotional distress, and property loss. The suit names 18 public and private sector defendants, including the City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Southern California Edison, and the California Department of Parks and Recreation. Thousands of people are plaintiffs in the broader litigation.

But here's where it gets really fun. Pratt's separate suit specifically accuses LADWP of operating the water supply system with a reservoir "drained and unusable" as a "cost-saving measure." You know, that pesky little detail about not having water to fight fires in a city built on a tinderbox. Meanwhile, Mayor Bass had slashed $17 million from the L.A. Fire Department budget before the blaze erupted. Brilliant planning.

Oh, and where was Her Honor when the fires broke out? Ghana. She was in Ghana. Living it up with dignitaries, politicians, and ambassadors.

A representative for Mayor Bass tried the old nothing-to-see-here routine, telling reporters, "There's nothing new here — Mayor Bass has spoken of her brother's loss publicly since January of 2025." Right. Because acknowledging your brother lost his house and actually doing something to prevent it are totally the same thing.

The Palisades Fire killed 12 people and leveled entire neighborhoods. And the rebuild? A complete joke. Months after the fire, the city had approved a grand total of 5 rebuild permits. Five. It took a Trump executive order in February 2026 cutting through the red tape before anything started moving. Because of course it did.

Pratt, who finished 3rd place in the Los Angeles mayoral race after running on a platform of exposing city corruption, hasn't exactly been subtle about his feelings. "I hope their Thanksgiving dinner isn't too awks," he posted. "I know ours hasn't been the same since last year." He also floated his exit strategy from the city: "I'll take that money from the Newsom state park and the LADWP, and I'll go somewhere that my kids will not have to see naked zombies."

Honest to God, give this man a column.

Here's the bottom line: when your own brother hires a lawyer and teams up with a reality TV star to sue you in open court, the "strong leadership" narrative is officially dead. Karen Bass cut the fire budget, jetted off to Africa, and left her city — and her own family — to burn. Now Kenneth Bass is doing what voters should have done a long time ago: holding her accountable. The only question is whether the judgment hits harder than the Thanksgiving awkwardness.

According to the New York Post and PJ Media, this lawsuit isn't going away anytime soon. And neither is Spencer Pratt.
