Vice President JD Vance just confirmed what every conservative with a working internet connection has been saying for years — Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is under active federal investigation by the Department of Justice, and it almost certainly involves her alleged sham marriage to her own brother. Welcome to the party, federal government. We've been saving you a seat since 2019.
Remember when anyone who brought this up was called a racist conspiracy theorist? Remember when the media treated this story like it was birtherism on steroids? Yeah, funny how the Vice President of the United States is now casually confirming the DOJ is on it.
Vance didn't mince words when speaking to reporters on Tuesday. "You read the things about Ilhan Omar… who she married and whether she didn't marry this person or that person. It certainly seems like something fishy is there, but everybody's entitled to equal justice under the law," Vance said. Then came the hammer: "If we think that there's a crime, we're going to prosecute that crime. And that's something the Department of Justice is looking at right now."
That's the Vice President publicly putting a sitting congresswoman on notice. Not some anonymous leak. Not a rumor. A direct statement from the second-highest office in the land.
For those who need the refresher — and God knows the mainstream media will never give you one — here's the timeline. Omar was born in Somalia, arrived in the U.S. in 1995 after her family was granted asylum, and became a naturalized citizen in 2000. In 2002, she entered a religious marriage with Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi. Then in 2009, she legally married a British citizen named Ahmed Elmi — the man critics have long alleged is actually her brother.
Despite that legal marriage, Omar reportedly continued her relationship with Hirsi. She and Elmi separated in 2011 but didn't bother legally divorcing until 2017. Then in 2020, she married political consultant Tim Mynett. If your head is spinning, imagine how immigration officials feel.
This isn't the first time Vance has gone after Omar on this. Back in March, during a podcast appearance with Benny Johnson, the VP was even more direct. "We think Ilhan Omar definitely committed immigration fraud against the United States of America," Vance said, noting he'd discussed potential legal action with White House immigration advisor Stephen Miller.
Definitely. Not "possibly." Not "allegedly." Definitely.
Omar, for her part, has responded the way she always does — by playing the victim card. Back in December, she fired off on social media: "He needs serious help. Since he has no economic policies to tout, he's resorting to regurgitating bigoted lies instead." Ah yes, the old "anyone investigating my suspicious marriage history is a bigot" defense. A classic.
Here's what makes this moment different from every other time this story has bubbled up. This isn't bloggers speculating. This isn't even conservative media connecting dots. This is the Department of Justice actively investigating a sitting member of Congress for immigration fraud. The woman who lectures Americans about morality, who wags her finger at border enforcement, who cries "Islamophobia" every time someone asks a legitimate question — she might have gamed the very immigration system she claims to champion.
As reported by Conservative Review, the investigation may also touch on Omar's potential involvement in the "Feeding Our Future" fraud scandal and financial disclosure concerns. Because apparently one federal scandal at a time just isn't her style.
We were told for years we were crazy. We were told there was no evidence. We were told to shut up and stop being bigots. And now the feds are literally investigating it. Turns out the "conspiracy theorists" had receipts the whole time.
