Iran's Ayatollah Congratulates Democrats on 'Accelerating America's Collapse' — And He Might Not Even Be Alive to Enjoy It

The office of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei released a statement this week declaring that the Democratic midterm victory has "accelerated America's collapse."

So when the Iranian regime is running a victory lap over your election results, maybe pump the brakes on the champagne.

The statement came directly from Khamenei's office — though there's a wrinkle nobody in Washington seems eager to discuss. Since the February U.S. strike that reportedly killed members of Khamenei's own family, including his father and wife, the Supreme Leader hasn't produced a single verified proof of life. Intelligence chatter suggests he was rushed to Moscow for medical treatment. Whether the 85-year-old cleric is actually alive, in a coma, or being Weekend-at-Bernie'd by regime officials remains an open question.

The statement itself doesn't care about those details. It was crafted to project strength and to signal, unmistakably, that Tehran views the shift in American congressional power as a strategic win for the Islamic Republic.

Think about what that means in practical terms. The regime that chants "Death to America" at Friday prayers, that arms Hezbollah and Hamas, that has spent decades building a nuclear program while lying about it to every international inspector who walks through the door — that regime looked at Tuesday night's results and said: this is good for us.

The timing if this statement isn't coincidental — it's diagnostic. Tehran issued this statement because they believe a Democratic Congress is less likely to support the military posture and sanctions enforcement that have kept the regime on its back foot for two years.

The broader pattern is hard to miss. Every adversary the United States faces — Iran, China, Russia — calibrates its behavior to who holds power in Washington. When the administration projects strength and Congress backs it, the provocations slow down. When the legislature fractures, the provocations accelerate. Iran isn't being subtle about which column Tuesday's results fall into.

Abbott's observation in the piece landed with the weight it deserved: "I mean, is he wrong?" Not an endorsement of the Ayatollah's worldview. Just a flat acknowledgment that America's enemies are reading our elections the same way we are — and drawing their own conclusions.

The February strike changed the calculus in the Middle East. For the first time in decades, the regime absorbed a direct hit on its inner circle and couldn't respond. The diplomatic isolation deepened. The proxy networks started fraying. And now, nine months later, the office of a man who may not even be breathing is telling the world that American voters just handed Tehran a lifeline.

That's the endorsement on the résumé nobody in the new Democratic majority is going to mention during their victory press conferences. The Ayatollah's office put it in writing.
