Hakeem Jeffries Won't Rule Out Impeaching Trump Again if Democrats Retake Congress in the Midterms

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries is already licking his chops over the 2026 midterms, and when asked point blank whether Democrats would pursue impeachment if they retake the House, he gave the most Hakeem Jeffries answer imaginable — they haven't "ruled anything in and ruled anything out." Translation: yes, absolutely, the second they get the gavel.

Shocking. The party that impeached Trump twice before he finished breakfast is keeping its options open for round three. Who could have possibly seen this coming?

Let's be clear about what's happening here. Jeffries knows his base is frothing. They've been filing impeachment resolutions like they're entering a raffle. Rep. Shri Thanedar of Michigan introduced H. Res. 353 back in April 2025 — before Trump even had time to redecorate the Oval Office. Rep. Al Green of Texas dropped H. Res. 939 on December 10, 2025, because apparently one per year wasn't enough. And Rep. John Larson of Connecticut filed H. Res. 1155 in April 2026, just to make sure the Judiciary Committee's inbox stays full.

Three separate impeachment resolutions. Three different Democrats. All referred to the House Judiciary Committee where they belong — in a drawer, gathering dust.

But here's the thing. When the House actually voted on Green's resolution, it was tabled 237-140. That means 140 Democrats voted to keep impeachment alive. Another 47 voted present, which in Washington-speak means "I want to impeach him but my district went red." Only 23 Democrats had the sense to join Republicans in killing it.

So when Jeffries plays coy and says nothing's been ruled out, do the math. A hundred and forty members of his caucus already showed their cards.

Now the Democrats' latest excuse is the Iran situation. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — never one to let a crisis go un-exploited — declared, "The American people are once again dragged into a war they did not want by a president who does not care." She added that "this war is unlawful. It is unnecessary. And it will be catastrophic." And just for dramatic flair: "Mr. President: this was not an inevitability."

Poetry. Absolute poetry. Someone's been workshopping their floor speeches in the mirror again.

But let's not pretend this is about Iran, or policy, or the Constitution, or any of the other things Democrats claim to care about between fundraising emails. This is about 2026. If Democrats win the House in the midterms, impeachment isn't a possibility — it's the opening act. They've already written the resolutions. They've already taken the vote. Jeffries is just waiting for the seats.

The quiet part isn't even quiet anymore. Jeffries stood there and essentially told America, "Give us power and we'll use it to go after Trump." Not to fix inflation. Not to secure the border. Not to do a single thing that helps the family in Ohio trying to afford groceries. Impeachment. That's the platform.

We went through this circus twice already. The first time gave us a week of dramatic readings. The second time gave us a made-for-TV event with a producer from ABC. Both times, the Senate said no. Both times, Trump's approval numbers went up.

And they want to do it again.

Remember that 237-140 vote the next time someone tells you Democrats are the party of "moving forward." They're not moving anywhere. They're stuck in 2019, re-running the same playbook, hoping the third time's the charm. Meanwhile, the rest of us are out here paying $5 for eggs and wondering if anyone in Washington remembers what a real job looks like.

Hakeem Jeffries hasn't ruled anything out. Neither have we. See you in November.
