A sitting Mexican senator with ties to the Sinaloa Cartel was arrested by the DEA in San Diego on Friday, because apparently cartel-connected politicians can just waltz into California like they're picking up fish tacos. Enrique Inzunza Cazárez, a 53-year-old senator from the state of Sinaloa, now faces federal charges including narcotics importation conspiracy and possession of machine guns and destructive devices.
But sure, the border is "secure." We know because every Democrat told us so for four straight years.
Let's back up and appreciate the full picture here, because this isn't some low-level bagman. Cazárez served as Secretary General of Sinaloa under Governor Ruben Rocha Moya — the same governor who was indicted on April 29 and stepped down on May 2 over his own cartel connections. Cazárez is a member of Mexico's ruling Morena party, and his charges were laid out in a 34-page superseding indictment filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Thirty-four pages. That's not a parking ticket.
The cartel faction he's tied to? Los Chapitos — the operation run by the sons of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán. So we're not talking about some abstract "alleged ties." We're talking about the most notorious drug trafficking organization on the planet, and a guy who was literally making laws in Mexico while allegedly helping run guns and dope across our border.
And he got caught in San Diego. Not Mexico City. Not Culiacán. San Diego, California — a city in the United States of America, which has a border that we were assured was perfectly fine and not at all a gaping hole in national security.
As RedState reported, the DEA made the arrest, and Cazárez also faces a conspiracy charge for the machine guns and destructive devices — because apparently narcotics weren't enough to keep him busy. The man was multitasking his alleged crimes like a true professional.
Here's the part that should make your blood boil. Cazárez took office in August 2024. That means for the better part of two years, a cartel-connected senator was serving in Mexico's government while allegedly conspiring to import narcotics into the United States. And another prominent figure in Sinaloa's government, businessman Enrique Diaz Vega, was also wrapped up in this mess. The rot goes deep.
Meanwhile, we had an entire American political party telling us the real problem was "root causes" and "climate migration." The Democrats spent years calling border security advocates racist while an actual cartel-affiliated senator was apparently treating the U.S.-Mexico border like a revolving door.
Remember when they said the wall was immoral? Remember when they said enhanced border enforcement was xenophobic? A foreign senator was allegedly running guns and drugs with El Chapo's kids, and the left's biggest concern was making sure we didn't hurt anyone's feelings at the port of entry.
The CIA is reportedly now operating in Sinaloa and Chihuahua, which tells you everything about how far this has gone. We're not dealing with a border dispute. We're dealing with a narco-state that had its tentacles inside its own legislature.
President Trump told us this was happening. He told us the cartels owned pieces of the Mexican government. He was called a liar, a fearmonger, a racist. Turns out he was just early.
A cartel senator. Arrested on American soil. In California. If that doesn't prove the border was a five-alarm emergency all along, nothing will.
